When we’re not playing shows, we also pop up on TV sometimes, from the Inland Empire to Los Angeles and beyond.
Here’s a few places that we’ve been. If you’re looking for a band to bring some authentic flavor to your event, let’s talk!
Our Converse Shoe Commercial
we were asked to be in a commercial for a limited-edition Converse Chuck Taylor shoe by legendary designer Shane Gonzales. Two back-to-back scenes, one with Mike on trumpet, and one with our good friend Stephen Foster on drums. Dexter is featured on the poster for the launch event. Last we checked, the shoes are going for over $2,000 in the collectors’ market (We’re keeping our pairs, though!)
David Tutera’s CELEBrations
This started with a phone call: David was relaunching his show. No more weddings; he was putting on big events for celebrities, and they had some very specific requirements for their music!
So they called us in for an episode with Oprah life coach and inspirational speaker Iyanla Vazant. She was unveiling her latest book, and wanted some classic Blues and R&B for her big event.
Iyanla was great to work with, and in between takes, she kept coming over to listen to the band play, and even said some nice things about us on the mic!
Then they brought us back, this time for an episode with comedian Kym Whitley, who wanted a ‘Cotton Club’-style feel for an awards ceremony she was putting on. This time, we set the mood with some jazz. That is, when we weren’t laughing. Kym was hilarious, and was cracking jokes the entire time. It was hard not to laugh while we played!
And it was an honor to play for Marla Gibbs, known for her role as Florence in The Jeffersons.
Playing for a TV taping is a fun challenge - you gotta keep the crowd happy and the camera crews happy!
But we had a good time, and the episodes came out great. You can watch the full episodes on Roku or Amazon Prime.
